Mel's Story
Mel Farrimond is a Scottish-born, Nova Scotia based singer-songwriter, whose introspective songs, heartfelt, intelligent lyrics and catchy melodies are earning her a loyal and growing following in North America and the UK. Starting out her career with bands such as Yes Yes Juliette (once described as the hardest working band on the gig scene), Mel has been accumulating stories and songs for years, and was nominated for Best Songwriter in Halifax’s 2024 Coast Awards. As she has evolved, so has her sound. Drawing influence from her Celtic roots, she offers listeners a soulful, thoughtful take on modern folk.
A seasoned performer and community builder, Mel has performed widely, including at Stanfest, when “Moon Song” won a video contest for a spot on the main stage, and the Go-Girls showcase at Folk Alliance in Memphis. She has been a mainstay host and participant in songwriters’ circles in Halifax, Nashville, and Scotland, most recently leading a Songwriter’s Circle at Port Wallace United Church, where local artists are invited to share their stories in an intimate, acoustic setting with the most attentive audience you’ll find in Nova Scotia.
Her long awaited next release, Peregrine Heart, will be available in June 2026, marking a bold and intimate new chapter in her songwriting journey. Leaning into lush harmonies and a full string section, the 5 song EP, produced by Laura Rae, promises a rich blend of melodic storytelling, lyrical honesty, and the atmospheric folk tones Farrimond is known for.
